Unicorn (spider)[edit]

Male pedipalp with copulatory bulb of Unicorn catleyi

  • ... that at least one species of the goblin spider Unicorn (male pedipalp pictured) practices genital mutilation?
  • ALT1:... that several species of Unicorn have been described in South America?
  • Comment: the image is most suited for the main hook, in which case, should it be featured, could be referenced as (male pedipalp pictured).

  • . Article expanded by more than5x. Posted before due date. Hook reference is in order. No copy vio. Img is free. But the entire text in section "Species and distribution" remains uncited. Pl do the needful so that I can record a green tick.--Nvvchar. 01:38, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
  • I added two inline citations. Additionally, the authority listed after every species indicates a reference (e.g. "Unicorn catleyi Platnick & Brescovit, 1995" is both the complete species name as well as alluding to reference 1.) Stylistically I think it would be citation overkill to list the same footnote 6 times.--Animalparty-- (talk) 01:47, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
  • . Main section is referenced now. Good to go.--Nvvchar. 05:04, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but can't find the inline cite for the first hook fact. Yoninah (talk) 19:11, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
  • The statement is verified by the first inline citation in Unicorn_(spider)#Reproduction, as well as the source itself: "Male genital mutilation in the high-mountain goblin spider, Unicorn catleyi". Let me know if this should be clarified further. --Animalparty-- (talk) 19:21, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
  • OK, if you say so. I thought that the article is about this species, so to say "at least one species of this species" sounds strange. Yoninah (talk) 19:27, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
  • I intended it to read as "at least one species of the spider (genus) Unicorn..." The article is about the genus, of which only one species has been studied regarding to its reproduction. I qualified the hook with "at least one species" per Wikipedia:Did_you_know#Content: The hook should refer to established facts that are unlikely to change..., so that the hook would still hold true should the behavior be discovered in other species. --Animalparty-- (talk) 20:22, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Great. Thank you for your patience. Restoring tick based on Nvvchar's review. Yoninah (talk) 06:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
