Väinö Koskela[edit]
- ... that prior to taking up athletics, Olympic long-distance runner Väinö Koskela was a member of the winning team at an under-18 cross-country skiing championship?

- Everything looks apart from the question of whether or not the hook is supported by the source. A Finnish Wikipedian was nice enough to translate the source for me, and apparently it reads:
- In the sports competition [between/of] Virolahden Sampo and White Guard boys Väinö Koskela's first event was cross-country skiing. In the boy's winter event of 1938 Sampo won the cross-country skiing team event for boys under 18 years, and this being their third victory, became owners [rather than having it for a while] of the challenge cup
- So I think it would be better to say "was part of a skiing team that won an under-18 cross-country championship" or somesuch. - Jarry1250 [Deliberation needed] 20:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, the perils of translation. You're quite correct of course, so I've modified the hook to pretty much exactly what you wrote. Also, thank you for the copyedit - it's difficult to mix up the sentences when it's all "he ranked this, then he did this and ranked that". I did have one issue though: you changed "Koskela was first ranked among the top ten worldwide in the 5,000 metres in 1947, earning the eighth spot." to "In 1947, Koskela was first ranked eighth in the world for the 5000 metres." I feel like the second one is a bit inaccurate... it makes it seem like it was just the first time he was ranked eighth, rather than the first time ever ranked (in the top 10). - I've tweaked the wording of the hook again, unhappy with my first go at it :) Thanks for picking me up on that sentence, now I read it back it does sound ambiguous.
