Wayétu Moore[edit]

  • ... that Liberian-American writer Wayétu Moore founded a publishing house and nonprofit organization, One Moore Book, which in 2015 opened Liberia's first bookstore devoted to recreational literature? Source: Madam Noire "Now, at 26, Wayetu is the founder and chief executive of One Moore Book, a one-year-old publishing house that develops and distributes books for children in countries with low literacy rates and underrepresented cultures." Source:NY Times"She also plans to reflect on the future of One Moore Book, which she relaunched as a nonprofit in 2015." Source: PRI "One Moore Bookstore, a small shopfront on a busy street in downtown Monrovia, represents many firsts. Though there are stores here that sell text books, this is the first selling books purely for reading pleasure."

  • Starting review!
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: No - This is a fascinating article and the hook could grab more attention. Maybe something like "... that Wayétu Moore', once a refugee of the First Liberian Civil War, founded publishing house One Moore Book to publish books for and donate books to underrepresented children around the world?"
QPQ: Done.

Overall: It sets off Earwig a bit, but that's just because of a quoted and properly cited review. Also, this has less to do with the review, but maaaaybe add a sentence to the article about here about the magical realism her father invoked to protect her and her siblings from trauma (under the She Would Be King section would be fitting, as it was an influence). It's just very impactful. originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 19:10, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

  • Just a comment following your work on the article - I missed the reference to the magical realism in your pre-DYK version of the article, my bad. But very cool how it's a running theme in her work! I do want to make it clear I'm open to feedback from you/other reviewers on the hook - it's such a cool article. (If I'm allowed to per wiki) I can ping people in for further opinions if you want, just let me know! originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 06:14, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
@Originalmess: Thanks for the very thoughtful and thorough review and sorry it took me a bit of time to respond! I think you’re right about needing a more interesting hook, and was working on what the new hook should be...let me know what you think, and if something else would be better. I added the references you suggested. I also added a sentence about the narrative her father invented to shield her from the war in the part about her life, and then changed the quote about her memoir so it's not redundant with that sentence.
For the hook, what do you think of:
Alt 1: ...that critically acclaimed Liberian-American author Wayétu Moore, once a war refugee, founded a nonprofit which publishes culturally relevant books for children in countries with low literacy rates?

No problem at all, and it's fine, I'm always on and off wiki anyway. Good work done. Passing it! originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 01:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
