Yao Xian (general)[edit]

  • ... that generals Yao Xian and Lin Hu were born in the same year, went to the same school, fought in the same war, held the same rank, and died on the same day? Source: Joint obituary

  • Nearly there! Long enough, fits the timeframe, clears Earwig's Copyvio, neutral AFAICT, definitely an interesting hook--just a smidge too long. Would the following be accurate? (I'm not a military historian so I want to be sure I haven't mischaracterized.) Innisfree987 (talk) 17:15, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
ALT1: ... that PLAAF generals Yao Xian and Lin Hu, who shared the same birth year, alma mater, combat experience and rank, also died on the same day?
Great, thanks for your reply! Good to go. Innisfree987 (talk) 15:35, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
  • @Innisfree987: I don't understand how a hook that's 160 characters is "a smidge too long". The upper limit is 200 characters. I prefer to promote the original hook, which to me reads better. Yoninah (talk) 17:23, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Yoninah, and for catching that--I think what happened was that I pasted the source text rather than the readable text into the character counter. Sorry about that, agree the first hook is better. Since there's space, do you think it makes sense to keep the PLAAF link I added in ALT1? As someone who wasn't previously familiar with these bios, I found the context provided by the PLAAF entry helpfully informative. But I leave it up to you! Thanks. @Innisfree987: I was thinking of adding something before "generals", but PLAAF is incomprehensible to most readers and they would have to click on it to see what it means–and they might not click on the target article after that. An easier solution would be to insert "Chinese" generals. But looking at these two fellows' names, it's obvious they're Chinese, so I didn't put anything.
