Zenker's fruit bat, Haumania liebrechtsiana

*ALT3 ... that gorillas and chimpanzees feed on Haumania liebrechtsiana, and Zenker's fruit bat often forages in areas of forest where the plant grows?

  • I want to tick this off, since it's new enough, long enough, the image is in the public domain, etc., but I'm having some hook issues. First of all, I don't rightly get it (why it's exciting), and that gorillas etc. eat the plant isn't in this article. More importantly, the source says it forages in areas "dominated by" that plant, which is a different statement from "associated with". In addition, "often" twice is a bit clunky.
    Hold on--this is a double. I'll get back to this in a moment.
    OK, both articles are fine in terms of length and newness etc. My concern about the plant itself is obviously null and void, but my concern about the hook remains. Drmies (talk) 15:58, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
@Drmies: Do you prefer ALT1? I wrote the plant article because otherwise it was a red link in the bat article, and was surprised to find it was so appetizing. I am trying to double up on my hooks because doing so (slightly) reduces the backlog of hooks, which stands at over 300. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:05, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
Sure, Cwmhiraeth, but the "associated" issue remains. That word suggests a connection, but that connection isn't made in the articles or the sources--the source simply has that the bats hang out where those plants grow. If you were to change that to "frequently forages in etc..." you are more in agreement with the source.
That still lacks a bit in hookiness, as far as I'm concerned. I agree with you that this is the way to get the two articles together, and maybe you can play around a bit more, a bit creatively. I find it funny, by the way, that fur is also a common thing: the plant's stems are hairy, gorillas are hairy, and the bat has funky colors in its fur ("pelage", haha)--but I don't know how you could distill a hook out of that. But that "associated" note, I think that needs to be changed. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:54, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
@Drmies: How about ALT2 or ALT3? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:17, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Let's go with 2. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 20:23, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
