Zombie star[edit]

The two inset images show before-and-after images captured by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope of Supernova 2012Z in the spiral galaxy NGC 1309. The white X at the top of the main image marks the location of the supernova in the galaxy.

  • ... that some supernovae may leave behind a Zombie star?
  • ALT1:... that Supernova SN 2012Z may have left behind a Zombie star?

  • For Halloween might I suggest a more appropriately spooky hook (without a pic, as that would give away the game) as below? Prioryman (talk) 19:39, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh yes, that's a really cool hook! SpinningSpark 19:42, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
However, having now read the article, not only does it not support NASA having discovered any Zombie Stars, it does not seem to support anybody having discovered any. At the moment, they are theoretical and 2015 seems to be the earliest we will have the data to be sure. SpinningSpark 19:53, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh OK... how about the following? Prioryman (talk) 20:04, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Is there any hope for jumping the queue for Halloween you think? Gaijin42 (talk) 19:45, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

I don't see any reason why not, I doubt if (m)any of the other hooks scheduled for tomorrow would suffer if they were postponed. Prioryman (talk) 19:51, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
At the moment, no. The article is new enough, but it is not long enough. A minimum of 1500 characters of readable prose are required and you currently only have 1316. You need to write a bit more in a hurry. SpinningSpark 19:53, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm only at 2 DYKs so you can save your QPQ. Gaijin42 (talk) 20:28, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
  • New article. Length may be an issue, although I think we are close now. Somebody should recheck. We added some prose. Only 2 DYK, so QPQ unneeded. Clearly notable. Well referenced and supported by more than ample sources. I read all the cited sources, and as to those I certify that there is no close paraphasing or copyright violations. I do think that the hook should include the picture. I did not check on its copyright status, however. IMHO, hook is very hooky and ideal for Halloween! My plagiarism checker is not functioning (sorry!), so I could not check for copyvio or close paraphrasing in articles that were not cited. Hook and article are neutral, and interesting and directly referenced by all the cited sources. I would appreciate it if somebody would check for copy vios—for the rest of the web—although I think there are none. But I don't want this to bite me in the ass. 7&6=thirteen () 20:31, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
ALT 1 & ALT 2 & ALT 3 without the picture checks out. 7&6=thirteen () 20:35, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
  • ALT 2 isn't accurate, as Spinningspark pointed out, so let's remove that from contention. To be honest I thought ALT 1 was a little underwhelming, which is why I suggested ALTS 2 and 3 as "hookier" alternatives. Does Gaijin42 prefer 1 or 3? Prioryman (talk) 20:40, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
3 seems more in the Halloween spirit, and since thats the reason we are trying to queue jump, it seems appropriate. But #1 is certainly more encyclopedic.Gaijin42 (talk) 20:50, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
  • I'll see about queue-jumping (I'm not an administrator), but in the meantime the article lacks at least one citation in the second paragraph under "Observed instances", per DYK rules. Yoninah (talk) 22:03, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
reused a citation for that paragraph. (the 30 to 40 solar masses bit) Gaijin42 (talk) 22:15, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Restoring tick for original or ALT1 hook. Yoninah (talk) 22:19, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Now easily long enough and the sourcing issue has been fixed. Good to go with ALT3 as the hook. SpinningSpark 22:21, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
