Template:In response to/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage[edit]

Template {{In response to}} (a.k.a. {{irt}}) is used to indicate that a talk page comment is written in response to another comment outside the current thread, much earlier in the thread, or on a different page. It provides a diff of the comment being responded to, and optionally, a link to the author's user page. Note: putting a space between this template and your comment may result in WP thinking that you've begun your line with a space. The parenthesis and small text size should be enough to ensure readability.

Parameters[edit]

{{In response to|url=|user=}} or {{irt|url=|user=}}

  • This template can be used with no parameters. If you want to use the parameters, you must specify the names.
  • url= The first parameter specifies the url of the diff in question. You can get this url by going to the page history and clicking on the word "diff" next to the edit in question. This parameters is required if you want the template to indicate that you are responding to someone in particular. So if you only specify the user, the template will behave as if you specified no parameters.
  • user= The second, optional parameter specifies the author of the comment being responded to. Only type their user name, do not encase it in double square brackets as one would usually do to create a link.
