Template:MHL catalog/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Description[edit]

{{MHL catalog}} is a template used to generate an external link to an entry for an individual at the Margaret Herrick Library at the Margaret Herrick Library. In an article it should only be used in the "External links" section.

For a person, use {{MHL catalog}}.

Usage[edit]

The required parameter is the ID number. The template then uses the article title as the anchor text:

* {{MHL catalog|ID}}

This is necessary when adding a Margaret Herrick Library link to an article about somebody or something other than the linked work (for example, if you include the Margaret Herrick Library link for Katharine Hepburn on a talk page, you must specify Katharine Hepburn as the second parameter).

Detailed instructions[edit]

  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article's External links section
  2. Go to Margaret Herrick Library and search for the work you want (say, Katharine Hepburn papers; you'll reach http://catalog.oscars.org/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=67192)
  3. Click on the correct Katharine Hepburn papers in the list (usually the first); this will bring up the page http://catalog.oscars.org/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=67192
  4. Copy only the number (here, "67192")
  5. Replace "ID" in the template code with the number
For the first option above, you'll then have
* {{MHL catalog|67192}} resulting in:
* MHL catalog/doc papers at the Margaret Herrick Library
Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page Katharine Hepburn, use the second option:
Replace "ID" with the number and "Name" with "Katharine Hepburn"
* {{MHL catalog|67192|Katharine Hepburn}} results in:
