Template:Mastodon user/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Template:Mastodon user displays an external link to a page at Mastodon, a social media website. It is intended for use in the external links section of an article.

Usage

[edit]
  • If the Wikidata entry for a subject for the property P4033 exists, then typing {{Mastodon user}} should automatically provide the subject's Mastodon user URL; this is typically usable in a WP:EXTERNALLINK; discuss on the talk page if there is controversy about whether the external link is notable enough for that subject (person or organisation).
  • If the Wikidata entry for a subject does not exist, typing {{Mastodon user|subject@instance}} should provide the URL https://instance/@subject . The result of this example is: Mastodon user/doc on Mastodon
  • Do not use two '@' symbols: {{Mastodon user|@subject@instance}} will give the wrong result.
  • You may also use {{Mastodon user|subject@instance|alternative name of this subject}} to override the name of the article in the displayed text; this will give: alternative name of this subject on Mastodon
  • Using |noon=(any value) disables the "on Mastodon" portion of the template.
