Template:Meitei name/doc

This template may be placed at the top of a biographical article of someone with a Meitei name to identify paternal surnames which make up the family name, given name as well as any name suffix like generational title or others.

Usage

Parameters

• "1" or "first" – the family name (optional, but usually present)
• "2" or "second" – the given name
• "3" or "suffix" – the generational suffix

Note: Each parameter is optional, but a maintenance category will be added to articles that use this template without any parameters.

Examples

• For Saikhom Mirabai Chanu: {{Meitei name|Saikhom|Mirabai|Chanu}} or {{Meitei name|first=Saikhom|second=Mirabai|third=Chanu}} →

In this Meitei name, the family name is Saikhom and the given name is Mirabai. "Chanu" is a name suffix.

• For Nongthombam Biren Singh: {{Meitei name|first=Nongthombam|second=Biren|suffix=Singh}} →
  In this Meitei name, the family name is Nongthombam and the given name is Biren. "Singh" is a name suffix.

Usage note: In Meitei names, Singh or Meitei or Meetei, if it appears, is usually a name suffix (like generational suffix), and is not a family name, so it should be placed in the optional |suffix= parameter.
