Template:Pruned editnotice/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage[edit]

Normally, this template is used to prevent the so-called "list sprawl" (the list version of urban sprawl) and unnecessary maintenance that would result. Generally, this is used after an WP:Articles for Deletion discussion, though it may be added after a discussion on the article's talk as well. Additionally, this template is a maintenance template for itself (see § Appearance in article space). Editnotices using it appear in Category:Pages with pruned editnotice.

{{Pruned
|afd = AfD page name: Example (2nd nomination). Do not include "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/". (Alternatively, set afd=noafd)
|oldid = if you want to provide a link to the version before the pruning
|list = treats all answers other than "no" as a list
|date        = standard Month-name YYYY format
|talksection = to specify a particular talk section to discuss pruning

}}

The following is a blank template form (with an automatic date):

{{Pruned editnotice|afd=|oldid=|list=|talksection=|date={{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}}

Optional parameters (non-lists, oldid, or no afd)[edit]

If the pruning did not happen during a WP:Articles for deletion discussion, then set afd=noafd and it will instead refer to the appropriate style guideline. For example, {{Pruned editnotice|oldid=385922282|date=July 1234|afd=noafd}} makes: (note: "oldid" parameter also demonstrated)

Additionally, if the page is a not a list, then you can set the optional parameter list=no to change the message; for example, {{Pruned editnotice|list=no|oldid=385922282|date=July 1234}} makes:

And list=no|afd=noafd|oldid= :

You can also set {{Pruned editnotice|Category=}} to make an example without category.

Appearance in article space[edit]

This template is designed to look different depending on whether it is placed in the correct wikispace. If it is not then it will automatically display as the following maintenance template, re-generating its own parameters automatically:

Former clean-up template[edit]

This template used to be a clean-up template before it was converted to an editnotice as discussed at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2010_October_18. Articles were placed at Category:All articles that have been pruned.
