Template:Welcomeshorter/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How to use this template

[edit]

Use this template if you don't want to swamp new users, or if you don't want to drown something else that you want to point out to the new user. (To allow adding such other texts, the template does not contain a closing phrase such as "Happy editing" or "Again, welcome!")

To welcome a new user, place one of the following on their talk page:

What to type What it makes
{{subst:welcomeshorter}} writes message as it appears on this page
{{subst:welcomeshorter|your user name}} same as above with a link to your talk page
{{subst:welcomeshorter|your user name|new user's signature or first name}} allows a more personal message when the new user has a signature like "JohnDoe123"
{{subst:welcomeshorter|your user name|-}} writes message without a name (useful for IP accounts when you don't want to call a person "123.234.56.78")

And don't forget to sign yourself!

This is the same as Template:Welcomeshort, but without the headline.
