trouble pasting URL inside this template[edit]

Wanted to do this:

 •

Observed behavior:

 • Comment: Error: There was no comment specified! Please follow the instructions at Template:Afc comment.

Expected behavior:

 • should work as expected, should not display misleading error-message.  ;-)

Workaround:

Please fix the error-message, so it doesn't claim "no comment specified" when clearly I was trying to specify a comment, and of course, please also fix the template so that it accepts (without error) the kind of comment-text I was trying to specify, thanks, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 19:32, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Strange.... produces Comment: Please see this preliminary discussion of notability.Special:PermanentLink/678163636#WP:OTHERPARENT request , w.r.t. Draft:Jack Flanagan (New Hampshire politician), weird.... I'll take a peek and see what's happening. Mdann52 (talk) 19:20, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just to reply to this, it appears the error is being called from the "oldid=678163636" section – if no parameter is specified, it gets very confused and assumes this is what you intended. The only real solution is to include a 1= at the start – I don't think I can code it in a specific way to negate this. Mdann52 (talk) 19:42, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good enough workaround for my purposes, thanks much. Can the errmsg be fixed, to say something like "There was no comment-text detected, try saying " instead of the current not-very-helpful message? And prolly the helpdocs should suggest using "1=" as the default, so that unwary beginners … or well, even not-that-unwary not-that-beginner folks like me … don't assume that the non-parameterized flavor of template-usage will Just WorkTM. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 15:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the template-specific-helpdocs, to suggest using 1= by default, and also added a new bit of prose about using the simplified syntax sans 1= portion, with the workaround of using 1= should that fail to work as expected. Would still like to see the errmsg itself modified to be less misleading, but not sure how to make that docfix... "no comment specified" is not always the case so some weasel-wording like "no comment-text was detected by the template-bot" would be preferable methinks. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 17:21, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Per the above, can this template be changed to <span style=font-weight:bold>Comment:</span> {}<noinclude>Documentation</noinclude> please? Thanks, Mdann52 (talk) 18:04, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Add self link to template[edit]

I propose we add a self link to the template so that people accidentally using the wrong kind of parameter can easily access the template documentation. HeatIsCool (talk) 01:43, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@HeatIsCool: The template has linked back to the documentation when the parameter is excluded since 2013. --Ahecht (TALK

Link to relevant revision?[edit]

When reviewers review a resubmitted draft, they take into account any afc comments. However, these comments often relate to an earlier version of the draft, which may be substantially different from the current one. To make it easier for reviewers to evaluate the relevance of afc comments and ascertain the extent to which the issues identified in them have been addressed, wouldn't it help if each comment was automatically prefixed by a link to the corresponding revision of the page? Or even better, a link to the diff between that revision and the current one? – Uanfala (talk) 01:55, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 27 July 2018[edit]

I suggest for the image to be unlinked - just replace with . This is because the template is simply displaying a comment that contains the image as simply a symbol, it doesn't mean to have it as an actual picture display (if that makes any sense :P). See Comment, warnsign, done, and many other similar templates - none of them link their images. SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 00:31, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Refining the work from the previous change, if you could copy the sandbox over it now replaces any amount of new lines with one pb (directly invoking Module:String to use regex). LittlePuppers (talk) 15:48, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Borked template with recent page move[edit]

@Primefac: The incoming redirects that became double redirects need fixing. At this moment afc comment does not work, since it is accessing a double redirect. Since it is a protected page, I suspect the bot won't fix it, though I could be wrong. I expect many afc comments are looking odd right now. -- 65.92.244.147 (talk) 16:23, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Posting this in five different places isn't going to make me see it any faster. Already  Fixed. Primefac (talk) 18:35, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't posted in 5 different places. It is only posted on this talk page, to you, as this is the talk page for that redirect (centralized discussion); and to WPAFC (the wikiproject involved), for anyone else who might fix it (as it is a WPAFC template). -- 65.92.244.147 (talk) 04:59, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you are referring to AFCcomment and SUBMIT, being two different templates, and AFAIK aren't used in the same circumstances. (ie. AFCcomment is not used by the article wizard process per se. it is used on its own, in commenting for several different processes). -- 65.92.244.147 (talk) 04:58, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Signature randomly breaks[edit]

When I use my signature in this template, it completely breaks (see [4]). I use this code for my signature: — Yours,   • ∕, and it looks fine on all pages, outputting something like — Yours, Berrely (🎅 Ho ho ho! 🎄) • Talk∕Contribs 13:12, 16 December 2020 (UTC). However, in this template, it outputs as — Yours, Berrely <span style="color: #B3000C;">(🎅 Ho ho ho! 🎄) • Talk∕Contribs 14:47, 16 December 2020 (UTC). Any idea why? — Yours, Berrely (🎅 Ho ho ho! 🎄) • TalkContribs 14:56, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Berrely: See WP:SIG#NT. You're substing templates to get around the length requirement, which is a violation of the signature policy (since your signature expands to 262 characters). Even if you brought the length down, substitution of tempaltes in signatures is discouraged. Try using the following instead, which comes in just under the limit at 253 characters: — Yours, <span style="color:#000">Berrely</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:#B01">(🎅&nbsp;Ho&nbsp;ho&nbsp;ho!&nbsp;🎄)</span>&nbsp;•&nbsp;Talk∕Contribs ----Ahecht (TALK

Agreed with the above; it's not a problem with this template. Primefac (talk) 18:32, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thanks. I wasn't trying to get around the limit, just though it was easier to type, but thanks for highlighting the problem! — Yours, Berrely (🎅 Ho ho ho! 🎄) • TalkContribs 19:22, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I want to embed a Template:Source assess table in an AfC comment but can't[edit]

Basically the title. I found the Template:Source assess table to be pretty neat and I want to use it to break down sources to make it clearer to submitters why their sourcing is bad. Unfortunately, I can't nest the template in the AfC comment template which I found out the hard way when I tried to do so in the following diff. [5] I said "screw it" in that particular case and just split the table from the AfC comment, but I doubt this is a good solution and I won't do it in the future for any other submissions. That being said, I was wondering if there was any way I could use this table in AfC comments since I'd really like to. Not to ask the dumb question, but is this necessary? If anything we should just add a tracking cat like we do for AfC submission when it's in the wrong namespace. Primefac (talk) 08:54, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
