Missing at least two flags[edit]

Resolved
 – Flags added

This sporting flag is broadly used outside the Olympics, but there need to be "|soccer" ("|football" may be too amibiguous; I'll leave that to others to sort out) and "|Paralympics" parameters for C.T. that display the correct flags. See Chinese Taipei for the flags. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 20:27, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. These are trivial to add - just look at some other flag templates for examples to copy from. Andrwsc 22:01, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion[edit]

Resolved
 – Use case more complicated that appeared.

This makes no sense to me:

  • {{flag|Chinese Taipei|ROC}} =  Chinese Taipei (Use this only for "historical" references to Chinese Taipei national sports teams before the "Chinese Taipei" flag and name were first used in 1979)

(Emphasis added.)

It violates its own instructions; rather, there should simply be a note that for pre-'79 usage, it should be {{flag|Republic of China}} =  Republic of China (or perhaps {{flag|Taiwan}}; I'm not really sure which).

SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 09:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added this variant because we're starting to expand the usage of the Country data templates beyond the {{flag}} etc. templates. Specifically, I am starting to roll out templates for national sports teams, such as {{fb}} for football and {{bk}} for basketball (with more sports to come). My motivation is to replace over a thousand redundant flag templates (e.g. check out Category:National football team templates). In the case of Chinese Taipei, articles such as Chinese Taipei national football team include the history of the team prior to the "Chinese Taipei" naming. Therefore, if I want to refer to results prior to 1979, I can now use {{fb|TPE|ROC|name=Republic of China}} for  Republic of China. Without this flag variant in this template, we would get {{fb|ROC}} for  Republic of China, which produces a wikilink of Republic of China national football team, which is a redirect. We want to avoid the redirects. Hope this makes sense. Andrwsc 09:30, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I get that. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 09:39, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Variant needed[edit]

National volleyball teams uses a different of Chinese Taipei flag, then a variant should be used instead the one with olympic rings.

Football flags[edit]

[1] (flag on FIFA website, but never used) and [2] (former football flag)

I think they also would be added as flag variants of Chinese Taipei. --Virtpedia (talk) 07:06, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The rendering of the football flag has for some reason changed (become grainier). 77topaz (talk) 04:58, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Football Flag deleted[edit]

The football flag was deleted, someone please replace the deleted flag with the standard Chinese Taipei flag for the meantime.--Hariboneagle927 (talk) 00:48, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese Taipei national football team use Olympics flag in international events. Examples:
The present flag icon on FIFA website is Olympics flag, too.--Jitcji (talk) 08:23, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Removed the football flag from the template. {{fb|Chinese Taipei}} now results in the default Chinese Taipei Olympic flag:  Chinese Taipei. SiBr4 (talk) 09:31, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 3 July 2017[edit]

I want to add template for Chinese Taipei's football flag, so in the football pages won't use the Olympic flag instead. Flix11 (talk) 07:14, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Cabayi (talk) 14:04, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template.
Sorry, on a second reading it looks like you just want to undo the previous change, the removal of football flags. Please discuss it and establish consensus before requesting the change or else we'll just keep shuttling between having and not having football flags. Cabayi (talk) 14:07, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Variant needed[edit]

We need a variant of this that does "Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)". In too many places, using "Chinese Taipei" is unencyclopedic/unhelpful; 99%+ of our readers have never heard this name, and they should be able to find "Taiwan" when doing an in-page search. We have all sorts of variations for China, e.g. "China, People's Republic of", "China (People's Republic of)", and "People's Republic of China", as well as "China" and "PRC".  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  03:01, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Implemented: {{flag|Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)}}:  Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). However, {{flagcountry|Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)}} still just outputs "Chinese Taipei":  Chinese Taipei. But this may be intentional, as {{flagcountry|TPE}} does that, too:  Chinese Taipei.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  03:14, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 13 August 2018[edit]

Please add | flag alias-football = Flag of Chinese Taipei (FIFA).svg so the flag used by FIFA (confirmed here and larger here) is able to be used for football templates. Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 20:30, 13 August 2018 (UTC) S.A. Julio (talk) 20:30, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit protected}} template. There seems to have been multiple discussions whether there is a need for a separate football flag. chi (talk) 11:54, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Χ: The discussions were around a different flag, File:Chinese Taipei Football Flag on FIFA website.svg, which FIFA no longer uses. This was removed as FIFA use a flag which more closely resembles the Olympic flag (File:Flag of Chinese Taipei for Olympic games.svg). However, File:Flag of Chinese Taipei (FIFA).svg is the flag used by FIFA (as shown on their association page), which has slight differences from the Olympic flag. As per previous discussions on WP:FOOTY, football flags should reflect what is used by FIFA. S.A. Julio (talk) 14:45, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, File:Flag of Chinese Taipei (FIFA).svg was deleted from commons 9 May 2019 which appears to be causing issues on ~700 pages (see CAT:MISSFILE). Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 09:01, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MSGJ, would it be possible to restore the file? It was incorrectly deleted from Commons. Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 02:09, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
