What about the two exising aliases - 1924 and 1949? I see that 1924 has been replaced, but there is no replacement for 1949. Is this alias being use anywhere and should it be a redirect alias? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:35, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The 1949 version has been renamed to Flag of the People's Republic of Mongolia (1945–1992).svg, because the flag was actually in use since 1945. I think most instances of it uses the flag|Mongolian Peoples Republic

instead of flag|Mongolia|1949 but it could probably benefit from a redirect since it was not officially confirmed until 1949. Maybe both 1945 and 1949 could "link" to the same flag...

Done all except the Olympic flag, since AFAICT it just represents the Olympic committee rather than the country (for which the normal national flag is used at the Olympics), and not even the IOC flag template system includes it. I also added a tracking category to find out which pages use 1949. Setting two variants to the same flag file works, but I tend to not do that unless it's transitional or there's a semantic difference. SiBr₄ (talk) 16:17, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The flag is specificed only as "red with the emblem in the middle with "mongol peoples republic" on written the sides". The exact shade of colour is not often specified in older flags. Some pictures of real-life examples of this flag can be seen here https://www.zasag.mn/news/view/6221

Some examples seem to have the "mongol peoples republic" in Cyrillic text and others in mongol, some seem to also have the whole mongol peoples republic on both sides while other shave it split between both sides. It has been shown that the 1924 flag was used until 1940, and the "1930-1940 flag" was not a normal national flag. The 1924 flag also generally "dropped" its tails during the 1930's, so this alternative is a good addition. Havsjö (talk) 18:09, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. Flag of Mongolia is doubtful about this flag while providing no sources. It seems like it should be better verified before we start using it to represent the country in other articles. those are new flags of branches of the Mongolian armed forces since 2021. See https://gsmaf.gov.mn/gsmaf/onePost/2166. The "Flag of the Mongolian Armed Forces.svg" file is derived from "General banner of the Mongolian Armed forces.svg" file, and it is impossible to find any source or photos that prove it was used as stand-alone flag. Mongolian military has always used the national flag or complete general banner as a military flag.
