Number nitpicking

[edit]

...Okay, there's been NO announcement of whatever # Conklin intends to pick, whereas there has been an official conference or something to say that Hossa will wear 81. Do we HAVE to go by the sake of the not-terribly reliable wings.com roster? Or are we still abiding by 'summer limbo', so we have no information for next season. ? ConkblockCity (talk) 16:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty much summer limbo. But just to note, I was taking out the 81 that someone assumed and was not adding it. 35 is a logical choice as no player on the red wings have it at the moment. I know a goalie from the minors has it, but the odds of him beating out Conklin or Osgood for the job at not likely. If we are going to go by anything it would need to be the not to reliable wings.com roster. But that all goes back to rosters on such pages are not reliable during the summer because there is no roster during the summer. Rosters are choosen at training camp etc etc. -Djsasso (talk) 17:57, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know you were removing and not adding the 81; I was saying that it's not an assumption; there is official confirmation that Hossa will wear 81 for the Wings, whereas assuming Conklin will have 35 IS...This "no rosters during the summer" thing drives me a little crazy, quite frankly. According to the current consensus no team has a captain for next season, either. ConkblockCity (talk) 19:25, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And they don't. Captains are reconfirmed by teams every season. More often than not the captains are simply renamed captain. But this is not always the case. There have been numerous cases where this hasn't happened. Personally I would like to just remove the roster from pages all together during the summer, but no concensus on going that far could be achieved. -Djsasso (talk) 19:31, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm glad I finally got an answer on the "Captain TBD" front, but the fact that there is official, contacted word from the team and it's doesn't count simply because it's in a ohnoesblog is silly. The guy cites all the published Wings news every day; he has access to the team; just because it's a blog shouldn't automatically discredit it. You can't count a pure assumption for Conklin as a better source than a report from the team for Hossa, so if that's the case, I think neither should have a number. I would have no problem with neither having a number. Personally I prefer that all new members of the team have no number. -Djsasso (talk) 20:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. ConkblockCity (talk) 20:08, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
