Template talk:Did you know nominations/Grand Bargain (humanitarian reform)
Appearance
Hi User:Theleekycauldron A lot of discussion went into if the image was good to use and concluded it was, but it seems set up without an image. Is that intended or an oversight? CT55555 (talk) 01:34, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- As I understood it, the ALTs were offered without the word "pictured", and I understood that that meant no picture was required. You also said that you were not fully satisfied with the pictures that were offered.
- The discussion about the image with the logo was not about whether it should be included with a hook. It was about whether it was copyvio and if so, whether it should be deleted. I could not cut and paste it and move it elsewhere, because I could not find an image page for it, so I could not link it elsewhere; the image had no filename. The result of that was that it had to stay on the nomination template until the issue of copyvio was resolved. I am still attempting to find out where its filepage is, with no result yet. My apologies if you were misled by the discussion being on the nom template.
- I still don't think that we should use the image at DYK if it has no image filepage that can be found, because readers cannot verify its licence. Storye book (talk) 11:54, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- OK, no problem. I don't know what's causing the confused with the image, because just clicking on it should get you to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Grand_Bargain_(humanitarian_reform)#/media/File:No_Lost_Generation_at_World_Humanitarian_Summit_Istanbul.jpg but use of the image or otherwise isn't a big deal, and I agree I am not 100% about this image anyway. - That is the problem. The image that we see on the nomination template is the cropped image. But when we click on that cropped image (with just the logo), it takes us to the original image (with the people) that it was cropped from. That original image is not the one that you could use in the hook, because it would not work as a thumbnail. You would want the cropped image, but that has no filepage and no name, that that is what the problem is. Storye book (talk) 12:58, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- I'm so sorry that both of you went to all this trouble for an image I didn't end up using! Unfortunately, prep builders can't end up running every hook with an image in a slot; we tend to have more image nominations than we can handle. Again, I'm really sorry about that! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 09:07, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- Don't worry, I think we all understand that. But it might help to know that until now promoters (by tacit agreement?) have been holding back the best images, sometimes for over two months, until there is a slot for them. Maybe we could go back to doing that for the really good images? Storye book (talk) 09:44, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- I do that also; but there are some images that I don't see myself promoting at any time in the near future, and I'd rather not keep a spanning backlog. It's not necessarily that the image was objectively bad, but I never saw it rising high enough in the stack to use compared to the ebb and flow of other images that pass through DYKNA. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 10:41, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- It's all good from my perspective. I recognise that the image is simultaneously not great and not tangible. I basically tried to squeeze in an image to get this in first spot in DYK (as I noted that previous successful DYK nominations only got about 30 pages views, so this process got less attention to articles than I had hoped for). If I was the judge about what articles got images and I had too many, I would not chose this one, I think we have consensus here. CT55555 (talk) 14:13, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
