Template-protected edit request on 1 December 2021[edit]

Create the edit notice, with the following text:

Do not modify text relating to the classification of Maryland as a Northern, Mid-Atlantic, South-Atlantic, and/or Southern state without providing appropriate references. Discussion regarding this issue has been opened on this subpage. DO not VIOLATE THE AUTHORSHIP OF THE INTENT OF THE STATE'S NAME OR DELETE THE POSSIBLE ORIGINS OF THE STATE'S NAME. Disregard for this warning may result in reversion of your edit(s) with possible warning.

This is apparently a controversial topic (I suppose the Civil War never ended or something) to the point that there is an invisible html comment in the lead. Per my rationale here on the Teahouse, an edit notice would be more easy to see / harder to miss.

The text is taken from the html notice, with the only modification being to link the discussion subpage rather than say it is available from talk. The html comment has been stable for at least one year (not sure how to wikiblame for html comments so I did not bother looking for the exact date of introduction). If it were up to me I would suggest to remove the all-caps sentence, but I have no intention of arguing about it

I will drop a note mentioning this request on the main talk page of the article. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 11:05, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
