Width[edit]

It seems some Canadian cities have full width weatherboxes. I don't see why since the normal weatherbox looks just fine before and after your improvements, The Grid.

Is this broken on your screen, @The Grid:? IvicaInsomniac (talk) 17:45, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's working for me, how does it show on yours? Are you also on mobile? – The Grid (talk) 20:02, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From what I understand with the coding, the width at 100% allows the majority of the browser to show the table clearly. You can experiment it by making this page its own window on your browser and then scaling the window bigger or smaller. – The Grid (talk) 20:06, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
100% width and standard width look exactly the same to me on a cellphone, but 100% width is much too wide on a PC screen, there are big gaps between neighboring columns. So you're fine with removing it? IvicaInsomniac (talk) 18:55, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No. There shouldn't be a big gap. Category:Alberta_weatherbox_templates have width=100% as well and display correctly. – The Grid (talk) 19:15, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your PC must have a smaller screen then. Either way, I'm not seeing in which situation is the usual width not at least equally as good as width=100%. Plus it is the standard in most articles about cities. IvicaInsomniac (talk) 23:42, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is not displaying correctly then? I use a big 33 inch monitor at work but have the window for editing pushed to the right side of the screen. I meant when width=100% is used, it will fill in the space when it's smaller than the actual size of the template.
I'm confused altogether about this because I see Template:Weather_box defaults 100% as the width when it's not stated in the code.this is ultimately where the issue lies? The Grid (talk) 04:32, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the code says, but it doesn't do the same as width=100%. This is the way I see it on most pages: https://postimg.cc/qzVXwHKp and this is what I see on this page: https://postimg.cc/DWBBppTB. It's harder to visually see the change in seasons and to find numbers inside large table cells. IvicaInsomniac (talk) 17:28, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! Thanks for the pics, what you're seeing is the weatherbox and infobox (on the right side) clashing with each other. Template:clearall - {{clearall}} will push the weatherbox to a new line that is clashing with the right margin. – The Grid (talk) 22:36, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitrary break[edit]

I wish I had access to a desktop. That still seems unique with how the widths show with your computer. Since you're on a new account, I have to see if this is something with the default theme as Vector 2022 versus the older ones dubbed Vector legacy (2010).

As long as I'm not losing you here, understanding the technical stuff might seen complex when this is just a one switch change in your Settings. – The Grid (talk) 22:53, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a way to check: WP:REMOVEV22. – The Grid (talk) 14:56, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The left sidebar helps, but the weatherbox is still far too wide: https://postimg.cc/625RVRjk
I made a mockup of how it would look with standard (unspecified) width: https://postimg.cc/xJxm6CBc
BTW, if the weatherbox on top of this talk page looks the same as the one in the article when on a phone screen (as it does on my phone), I just want to point out it has unspecified width. IvicaInsomniac (talk) 18:07, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@The Grid: What do you think? IvicaInsomniac (talk) 19:51, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you see at User:CambridgeBayWeather/sandbox? The first one is "width=100%" and the second is the default "width=auto". CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 18:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first one is full-screen-width, the second one looks like a typical weatherbox. IvicaInsomniac (talk) 18:36, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm using the default Vector skin but I'm not seeing the large difference that appears in the two images you posted. I'm seeing about 3 to 4 mm difference between the two boxes at my sandbox. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 18:53, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here's how it looks on my screen, Full HD resolution, no scaling: https://i.postimg.cc/pd1nMKFJ/classic-style.png, https://i.postimg.cc/VNNbhKdN/logged-in-style.png, https://i.postimg.cc/QdmTS2NP/logged-out-style.png IvicaInsomniac (talk) 19:23, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could be a browser issue. See User:CambridgeBayWeather/Auto width#Auto width does not seem to work like you would expect. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 19:48, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
