The JSDF designation after 2007[edit]

In 2007, the designation system of JSDF was changed with the implementation of the "Instruction Concerning Use of Equipment and Other Items by Units" and type numbers are no longer required. After that, some names are still given the name "Type XX" as a transitional measure, but others are not. Please refer to the following news article for details:
