Revert by CyberSkull

[edit]

Could you say why you reverted? Fredrik | talk 08:30, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer listing the games in release order, since the story of the Prime games is somewhat self-contained and separate from the 2D games. However, I don't have a problem with displaying both the release order and timeline order, so I'll vote for Fredrik's version. --Poiuyt Man talk 09:17, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I was just keeping it with the style of the other templates I copied to make this one. See Template:Zelda series, Template:Mario series or Template:FinalFantasy series. ~ Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 00:48, 2005 August 19 (UTC)

Overhaul?

[edit]

I find the chronology/release order to be repetitive and lacking. I propose splitting itto "Console" "handheld" and "spinoffs" or something like that. Hbdragon88 06:55, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jedi6 Version

[edit]

I like to propose this version of the Template.

By chronology: Metroid (Zero Mission) | Prime (Prime Pinball) | Prime 2: Echoes | Return of Samus | Super | Fusion
By release order: Metroid | Return of Samus | Super | Prime | Fusion | Zero Mission | Prime 2: Echoes | Prime Pinball
Upcoming: Hunters | Prime 3 | Dread
Universe: Samus Aran | Characters | Chozo | Gunship | Items | Locations
Enemies: Metroid species | Mother Brain | Ridley | Kraid | Space Pirates
It's better than what we have right now, but I would get rid of release order or Chronological order, and create a Prime sub-series section.  Mit  kebes  T  15:18, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Change?

[edit]

Ripping off from the Mario and Zelda series templates, I've created an alternate Metorid one here: User:Hbdragon88/Temp. Tell me what you think. - Hbdragon88 06:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've always thought the current template is ugly. I'd suggest sticking Prime Pinball with the other Prime games and adding the "upcoming" works. --Pagrashtak 14:59, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's better to keep them seperate - just like how the Zelda series has the Tingle RPG in its own line. Pinball isn't really part of the Prime subseries or the regular games; it's a spinoff of the series as a whole. I did put "forthcoming" on all the titles that haven't been released, though. - Hbdragon88 21:03, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's Prime Pinball, so it could be included in the Prime series. It's a 2D game, so it could belong in the 2D games section also. I'd add the film to the template also. --Pagrashtak 23:25, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Add in Prime Pinball in parentheses after Prime. Prime Pinball is just Prime in pinball form. Jedi6 03:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I inserted into the Prime series, along with the Metroid movie. How does that look? - Hbdragon88 04:46, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better. The link to the film doesn't make it clear that it's a film, though; it just says "Metroid". I'd take off the "forthcoming" remarks too, I believe most templates don't have it, it's a little distracting. --Pagrashtak 03:54, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestions noted and implemented. - Hbdragon88 06:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Try putting Prime Pinball next to Metroid Prime. Jedi6 23:54, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Changes added and implemented into main template. - Hbdragon88 03:30, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Template

[edit]

What happened to the template with links to Metroid Metal and Relics of the Chozo? It was the best template I think we had.(What happened to the Metroid Metal page? The only thing left is a page for Stemage, and it has been nominated for deletion.)  Mit  kebes  T  15:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Template

[edit]

I made a new template, which I think is much better then the old one. Obviously, some people may disagree with the new template. If you do not think that this new template is as good as the previous, you're free to criticize, edit, or remove. It's all good with me. LerLerson 01:59, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We're having a discussion about this very subject at WT:CVG#Navboxes yet again. Feel free to stop by with any comments you might have. Combination 02:06, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Eep, I had to discuss it here first? Well, I didn't, for a lot of my changes. I hope they don't get reverted. Now that I look, I broke a lot of rules. DANGIT.LerLerson 02:11, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redesigned Template

[edit]

Lets use this, it has more useful links than the standard. - Mit  kebes  T  15:07, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Games: Metroid(Zero Mission) • Return of Samus • Super Metroid • Fusion • Dread
Prime Sub-Series: Metroid Prime(Pinball) • Prime 2: Echoes • Prime 3: Corruption
Hunters
Universe: Samus Aran • Characters • Chozo • Gunship • Items
Galactic Federation • Zebes • Phazon
Enemies: Metroid species • Mother Brain • Ridley • Kraid • Space Pirates
Metroid Prime(Dark Samus) • X Parasite(SA-X)

The problem is that it has the exact same number of useful links, and a whole bunch of other links besides. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:56, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot understand at all why they are useful links. If someone wants to see a link except 'games',such as characters, areas, items, he/she needs to take the trouble to find the link in some sentence of other articles.Articles of any other games, comics etc. have not only the link to their series but also their character, terms, and so on. I think it better to use the temprate based on this.I'm afraid only you look to be against it.--203.110.124.145 15:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like this one, but the pinball should be a seperate link, not a parenthetical of prime one. they all carry the "metroid prime" prefix, so it is no more related than the others. the metroid (zero mission) works, though. And also, including dark samus with metroid prime is a bit of a spoiler. I personaly read the end of the Metroid Prime article before completing echoes and was really annoyed. --a non-member

I say we should switch to this as soon as possible. Navigating will be MUCH easier Gurko 13:44, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Corruption?

[edit]

Why isn't Corruption on this list? (And why did my attempt to put it there get reverted?) Is it because the game hasn't been released yet? There's a lot of substantial information in the Corruption article, so I think it makes sense to have it linked in the template. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:58, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's too far off. It hasn't been shown in playable form, and doesn't have a release date. The article is composed entirely of speculation and info from a primary source (and said primary source has a vested interest in selling the game). - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:21, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even though what A Man in black said is true, except about the playable part. Wasn't there a playable demo at E3 2006? If I wrong on that part I'm sorry. There are many causal surfers out there that might stumble upon Metroid articles. If they don’t see Corruption in the template then they may never know about Corruption. So it in my opinion to at least add a future release section to the template to show people that there is a game in development. Natural number is e 00:56, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was a demo of Metroid Prime 2 running on the Wii. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:48, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One last thing, I noticed that A man in black has allowed super mario galaxy to appear on the Mario template. As it is in my opinion that the new mario game and the new metroid game are in the same boat and they should be treated equally. Either drop both of them or add both of them, The only problem I see with this is the mario page is more "finished looking." Then again I think all related templates should be on par with each other. Then agian it just my opinion. If you don't mind lets put it up for a vote. Natural number is e 17:35, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Universe template

[edit]

I thought about something after seeing separate templates after the general shrinking such as Template:Metal Gear characters: a Metroid universe template. See if it's a good idea. igordebraga 21:33, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's good. You did a good job. If A Man In Black still refuses to use the previous navbox before his editting, it will be better to add this to Metroid articles.--Lachsha 15:55, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You do realize I'm not the only one removing the kitchen-sink template, right? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:58, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, certainly there are some people who don't like to edit the template as the previous one. Sorry. But it is strange that another one suddenly appeared and reverted it after I had suggested you many times..
However, your opinion to explain to me that you are true is not enough, I think. You showed what you say standard, but at the page Mario series' naxbox has not only links of game series but also that of their characters. This is not the reason you insist on editting it on your way. Additionally, you deleted the universe template other man made without any reasons. This is no good way, isn't this? You should refrain from editting articles as you want to do. --Lachsha 15:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Same problems, no real improvement. The problem is that it has the exact same number of useful links, and a whole bunch of other links besides. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 16:19, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Games" should be changed to "2D Games" or "Side-scrolling Games"

[edit]

The current design makes it seem as though the Prime games comprise an obscure and minor offshoot in the series. I think most everyone would agree that the Prime games are just as important as the 2D ones. While it may be appropriate to separate the two groups in the template, I don't think it's fair to list the 2D incarnations as the "Games" of the series. Thoughts? Subsurd 05:08, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dread

[edit]

I'm gonna take Dread off the template, since it doesnt exist. DurinsBane87 19:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chozo

[edit]

who removed chozo? I wish the person would stop. If only samus is next to universe, whats the point of having universe there? How would people know about things such as races and creatures as well as planets and other things if someone keeps deleting those articles and merging only one paragraph about it or not mention it at all? Someone else did not like that with Mario enemies —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chykka207 (talkcontribs) 05:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chozo was deleted from the template because the article was nominated for deletion some time ago (the result was a merge/redirect). Most other articles previously listed in the Universe of the section of the template went through the same deal; the only article currently still around is Metroid Prime (creature), which seems to have had its deletion reversed. The reasoning for Chozo's deletion was covered fairly well in the link I just posted, so I advise you to hop over there for any questions (though that is a finished nomination, so don't bother posting over there about it). Most of the deleted articles now have quick summary paragraphs in Metroid (series) to make up for having to be deleted. Arrowned 08:06, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the "Universe" section should be replaced by a "Related articles" area, where Samus and other miscellany can go. StevePrutz (talk) 01:54, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One way or the other

[edit]

Hello everyone. Why is Metroid II's number included in the template while Prime 2/3's aren't? Include the numbers or don't, but a combination of the two doesn't make sense to me. -sesuPRIME talk • contribs 00:28, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prime series main games

[edit]

I think everyone know here that there are 4 games in the "main" prime series: Prime, Echoes, Corruption and Hunters. Why Trilogy and Pinball are in the main section of this series? If you look at Mario and Zelda series' templates, you will notice that games like Mario Sports Mix and Link's Crossbow Training are not in the main section... Why shouldn't we change the Metroid template in a similar way?

But their not subdivided by series. Trilogy is all 3 main games. Crossbow Training is just a minigame, not a fullfledge one. Hunters is questionably a side story, and pinball has the same plot as the first game. To make a different group that falls in the same series just doesnt make sense. By your logic, we would also have to remove zero mission because its a remake and out it in its own section.Lucia Black (talk) 18:23, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Link's Crossbow Training is based on Twilight Princess and what game it is based on is not a relevant point(look at Pokémon Pinball R&S for example, which is base in Ruby and Sapphire)... And I am not talking in the same way about zero mission, because the template already has indicated that it is a remake... By your logic, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario 64 DS, Pokémon Ranger, etc should all be included in the respective template as main games, which clearly they are not.
But its not named "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Link's Crossbow Training". Super Mario Tennis is part of the sport series of mario, mario 64 DS and All-All Stars has a remake section in which Metroid series template doesnt (because theres not enough remakes to have a separate group). You fail to see that this template doesnt distinguish between main games, it only helps them know which game is part of which series. Compared to pokemin and mario, metroid is a fairly small and accessible series, so it doesnt need so many sections.Lucia Black (talk) 19:34, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, but still it doesn't make any sense why a pinball game is considered a prime 'main' game, as the template is clearly indicating that. If I was someone who doesn't know about the series I would be very confused with that situation...
You clearly do not understand my point if you still think the template is considering pinball a main game. It is considered a general game in the Prime series. We either divide the template by what we consider main games and minigames/compilations (Legend of Zelda per example) or we organize it by which game falls in which series. Pinball is part of the prime series, nothing suggest its a main game in this template. All it says its part of the prime series.Lucia Black (talk) 22:42, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I said I got your point, I was only commenting about what the template is indicating (people who don't know the metroid series may think that the prime games are pinball games by the definition of the template, for example) not what it is meant to be. BTW, I think your change to the template made it better.

I highly doubt any first time readers will see all games as "pinball" games because theres nothing (not even prior to my last edit) suggested or even implied that all prime games are all pinball games. The group is named "Prime series" with only 1 pinball game out of the other 5. But whatever, crisis averred so to speak.Lucia Black (talk) 02:35, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Placement of AM2R

[edit]

It would make sense to have a "fangames" group if we had more articles about Metroid fangames, but with AM2R being the only one, it makes more sense to me to combine it with the "related" group. The point of a group is to group similar items together.--IDVtalk 19:30, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Done: Per @IDV's above suggestion. It's not a good idea for navboxes to have a group for a single item... – // Hounder4 // 22:12, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Metroid Prime 4

[edit]

At the time of this writing (28 September 2018), Metroid Prime 4 redirects to the Metroid series page. Until it has its own independent article, Prime 4 should remain hidden from the navbox. – Hounder4 17:53, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Other M

[edit]

Isn't it a side-story / spin-off? I don't think even officially it is considered part of the main series --193.188.126.164 (talk) 06:00, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Considering Dread was called Metroid 5 in its reveal trailer, I would agree. Perhaps it would be better to add a spin-offs or "other games" section and put it there, and move the Prime spin-offs there too? TheHumanIntersect (talk) 09:13, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I just brought this up on the Norwegian version of this template. There the series is grouped into the "main" numbered series and the "Metroid Prime" series, which resonates with me personally. Other M shares more DNA with the 2D series than with the Metroid Prime series, and Metroid Dread is in a sense 3D as well. Tkbremnes (talk) 20:16, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
