Template talk:National memory institutions

Bias and references
[edit]This template is right now unduly focused on Eastern Europe (bias, or just unglobalized?). Also, in national memory, there should be a section listing those institutions, with sources to show they have been described as such. A few more: Library and Archives Canada ([1]), National Archives of Zimbabwe ([2]), National_Library_of_New_Zealand#National_Digital_Heritage_Archive ([3])... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:55, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- National memory institutions are generally a feature of post-Communist countries in Eastern Europe; I haven't heard of them anywhere else. (This formulation is "institution for national memory" rather than "national-level memory institution", which, like national library, is something completely different. - Well, I linked to a number of terms of the term used here in other contexts, so as you can see, the term is clearly used in other countries too. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:46, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, those are describing "national-level memory institutions". It is very different from "institution for national memory". What does Library and Archives Canada have to do with national memory?? (t · c) buidhe 00:53, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- It is called "national memory institution", not a "national-level memory institution". Cherry-picking what the sources say to create own own definitions ("limited to post-communuist EE") seems WP:ORish. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:02, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- You can start a different template for national libraries or national archives if you like. This template is only for institutions that deal with national memory, according to sources. The sources you cite do not say anything about these institutions being involved in national memory. Only that they are memory institutions. (t · c) buidhe 11:24, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
