Addition of distance

[edit]

Hi @Beamon890,

To begin with, should we add the winning distances? This creates an inconsistency in the List of Olympic medalists in athletics (men) pages, where currently only marathon and long jump have the time/distance for each medalist.

The long jump is as well the only event with a medal table, is that inherently bad? Beamon890 (talk) 08:48, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If yes, then I suggest to put them in a new column. Adding the distance in a new line makes the table less readable. See any athletics result page (e.g. Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics#Men's events) where we have separate columns for each medalist's mark. We are not creating a new column for country name and flag either, right? All I can say is that I find it clearer this way, especially since the column width is now perfectly uniform, which it wasn't with the extra column. I'm only interested in the long jump, with the marathon you can handle it however you like. Beamon890 (talk) 08:41, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The column width would be uniform (comparing with other events in List of Olympic medalists in athletics (men) page) with the extra column. And yes, we do not create a new column for country name & flag, but we DO create a new column for distance or time, as I wrote earlier with Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics#Men's events as example. I don't know what the medal templates have to do with the tables provided by you. Beamon890 (talk) 14:10, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Beamon890 You see that the table in Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics#Men's events has a separate column for each time/distance/points, right? They are not placed under the medalist. Nyoman Juniarta (talk) 14:58, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Beamon890 Also, in the example of the template Template:MedalistTable#Example_1, the competitor's score is placed in a separate column. Nyoman Juniarta (talk) 15:09, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Should we show the distances, and should we place them in their own column? Nyoman Juniarta (talk) 07:57, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support since I don't see why not, though I feel like you should finish discussing with @Beamon890 above first. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:03, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support if Nyoman Juniarta is able to fix the inconsistent column width. Beamon890 (talk) 14:19, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
