– The .../meta/abbrev template family has been deleted following a TFD, replaced by Module:Political party (for direct invocation) and {{Party abbr}} (for article use and ease of typing). This is primarily because I was not given permission to usurp {{party abbrev}} (see this discussion) despite the latter not currently being used. However, much like {{party shortname linked}} is the "linked" version of {{party shortname}}, I think these two templates should be moved as proposed so that their purposes are clearer; additionally, the value stored in the Module is "abbrev", so calling it "party abbr" is potentially confusing. I don't oppose but I'll say that "abbr" is used by {{Abbr}} (and the HTML tag <abbr>...</abbr>) and is the name Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Abbreviations uses as the displayed shortcut (MOS:ABBR). The inside of the module doesn't really matter here but even if it did, it's just a single simple find-and-replace change away. But again, I don't have any strong preference. The linked version though should be sent to TfD as unused. Gonnym (talk) 19:37, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. To be honest, my primary concern is someone wanting just an abbrev and not realising that {{party abbrev}} gives them more than just that. I'm also not particularly bothered if the abbr template stays where it is, but the abbrev spelling should then point there.
post-edit-conflict comment TFD is also reasonable, I figured since there was a linked shortname template this might benefit as well. Primefac (talk) 19:41, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac: Please proceed with changing the necessary parts of the template documentation on both ends to ensure the move does not affect template usability. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 09:43, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done, and thanks. Primefac (talk) 12:46, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
