Purpose

[edit]

Darigon Jr., while this is not bad actually, the template was meant to serve a dual purpose, i.e. both as an inline reference and in the "External links" section. {{cite web}} is more or less necessary (or at least highly desirable) for the former, while it doesn't preclude the latter. Hi GregorB, I modified the Template:Who is Who in Croatian Science because it had put the name of a person in quotation marks, e.g. in External links: "Dragan Primorac" Who is Who in Croatian ... Now, you can see the implementation of three new templates in the article Dubravko Škiljan--Darigon Jr. (talk) 14:38, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's nothing wrong with the person's name in quotation marks here, it is being treated as a title of an entry - same as an encyclopedic entry on e.g. Dubravko Škiljan ({{cite encyclopedia|title=Dubravko Škiljan|encyclopedia=Croatian Encyclopedia}}) would be rendered as "Dubravko Škiljan". Croatian Encyclopedia.. Nothing wrong with that and no need to fix it. GregorB (talk) 17:12, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
GregorB, see IMDb-Template, e.g. Rade Šerbedžija without quotation marks. By the way, there is another problem with the Templates. In the article Dubravko Škiljan, the last external link opens: [1] - it would be better to open the English version: [2]; the last link (CROSBI) in note 2 opens: [3] - it would be better to open the English version: [4]. Do you know how to achieve that in the Templates [5] and [6]?--Darigon Jr. (talk) 16:49, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
W.r.t. IMDb template - well, it serves as an external-link-only template, not as a citation template, so its formatting is appropriate for that function. IMDb is not considered a fully reliable source, and is normally not used for citations. "Who is Who" is another matter in this respect.
BTW, originally I wanted to add a |language= param to this template - not too difficult to do, although there is no reason really to link to Croatian version of the page. I'll take a look at these two, shouldn't be too difficult either. GregorB (talk) 22:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
