The music of The Wind Rises (風立ちぬ (サウンドトラック), Kaze Tachinu Saundotorakku), a film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, features a 32-track musical score composed by Joe Hisaishi, a longtime collaborator of the director and producer, and was performed by the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Besides the score, it also featured the 1973 song "Hikō-ki Gumo" written and performed by Yumi Matsutoya.[1] The soundtrack was released through Tokuma Japan Communications on 17 July 2013.[2]

Critical reception

[edit]

Scott Foundas of Variety wrote "The score by frequent Miyazaki collaborator Joe Hisaishi recalls Nino Rota in its lilting accordion-and-mandolin main theme."[3] Dana Stevens of Slate called it as a "romantic orchestral score".[4] Alonso Duralde of TheWrap wrote "Joe Hisaishi contributes another in his series of legendary scores for the director."[5]
