Toni Gogu (born 24 July 1972 in Fier, Albania),[1] is an Albanian former deputy who is the chairman of the municipality of Tirana.[2]

Life and career

Toni Gogu was born in Fier on 24 July 1972 and he moved to Tirana, where he studied law in the Faculty of Law in the University of Tirana from 1990 to 1994.[3] Gogu worked as the director at the Bank of Albania and the director of the Deposit Insurance Agency from 2012 to 2019, where he held this post even he worked in some other institutions in Albania.[4] He joined the Interdenominational Bible Society of Albania in 2017.[5] Gogu was deputy minister in the Ministry of Justice of Albania from 2017 to 2019.[6] He was appointed as chairman of the municipality of Tirana in July 2019.[7] Gogu was also appointed as a deputy in the Parliament of Albania in 2021.[8] He was also selected as the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party of Albania in October 2021.[9] Gogu also ran in an election for the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party of Albania in 2023 but he lost to Bledi Çuçi.[10] He was also elected the deputy chairman of the Investigative Commission of the Socialist Party for the handling of the data of the TIMS system in Albania, in April 2024.[11]
