Tony Young is a British keyboardist. He was the keyboardist for Gerry and the Pacemakers for over twenty years, from 1996 to 2018 (when frontman Gerry Marsden retired).

Biography[edit]

Young was a touring member for artists such as Billy J. Kramer, Brian Poole, Chris Farlowe, Steve Ellis, Dave Berry, Wayne Fontana, and P. J. Proby.[1][2] Young played on recordings published by Alisha's Attic, a duo that comprises the daughters of Brian Poole.[1]

In 1996, Young joined Gerry and the Pacemakers on keys, and toured with the band for over twenty years, until 2018, when frontman Gerry Marsden retired.[2] When Gerry died in January 2021, Young, per Marsden's request, was asked to carry on the legacy of the band as "Gerry's Pacemakers".[3]

Young left Gerry's Pacemakers in October 2023, to join Herman's Hermits. In turn, the Hermit's keyboardist, Tony Hancox, left the Hermits to join Gerry's Pacemakers on keys. In 2018, Young was enlisted on to the panel to be a music examiner for Trinty College London.[1][2]
