Trans FX is an American rock music band formed in 2011 by songwriters Chris McDonnell and Scott Young in Olympia, Washington.[1] They have released seven albums as of 2024[update], and continue to operate a revolving door, communal band, based in Olympia.[2] Their sound has often been compared to Lou Reed, Happy Mondays, Brian Eno, Primal Scream, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.[3][4][5]
History
[edit]Created in McDonnell's home studio, then Transfix, started as a self-proclaimed deathrock band,[6] consisting of members Scott Young (keyboards, vocals), Chris McDonnell (guitar, vocals), Nora McKinnon (drums), and Steve Sharrett (bass).[6] The band wrote and recorded a full-length album with Olympia-based recording company Dutch Tilt records, which was released on December 16, 2013.[6] The band's second studio album, Into The Blu, was released on K Records in the fall of 2015.[5] Into The Blu was a change in the band's sound and direction, as McDonnell and Young moved towards electronic pop and abbreviated their name to the current moniker, Trans FX.[5] Young left the band in 2015 to pursue a career in art.[1] In 2017, the band collaborated with fellow Olympians CC Dust on the CCFX EP, released on DFA Records.[7]
