Treći svijet (eng. Third world) is the second studio album by the rock group Haustor. The album was released in 1984.[1]

The only song on the album that deviated a little from the atmosphere and concept of the Treći svijet is, of course, "Radnička klasa odlazi u raj", which due to its lyrics did not find its place on the first album, and after three years, apparently some political times have matured and the song that performed since the beginning of their career were included in this album.[2]

This album reveals how much Haustor was ahead of his time, because the selection of melodies, harmonies, verses on the ever-current topic - political incorrectness and critical reflection, packed in excellent arrangements and production, sound current and modern even today.[3]

Background

[edit]

During 1982, Haustor released the EP record Zima/Majmuni i mjesec/Capri.[4] On January 6, 1982, the group held a farewell concert.[5] The reason was Sacher's military service. A recording from that concert was later released in 1995 under the title Ulje je na vodi.[6] Rundek had escaped Sacher's fate because he then got a job at Radio Zagreb.[7]

The first performance after military service was in September 1983 in Ljubljana.[8] Later, Rundek gave an interview to a magazine.[9]

Album

[edit]

Rundek wrote the lyrics and Sacher the music. With inspiration of the music from Jamaica, album was adapted to more domestic settings. After Sacher left group, there was a serious crisis. The song "Radnička klasa odlazi u raj" was supposed to be on the debut album, but it was judged as too provocative by Jugoton.[10] Treći svijet was one of the first albums recorded in the Split studio Tetrapak.[7] The sound is influenced mainly by The Clash and Elvis Costello.[11]

In 2022, a remastered version was re-released on gramophone record.[12] On that occasion, the group gathered again.[13]

Reception

[edit]

The portal music-box.hr in the review regarding the reissue of the record states there's no working class today, at least not in the same form and sense as forty or more years ago, whether it has gone to heaven or perhaps somewhere else, but also today it stands proudly as a slight jab at all the authorities. The album is rated with 5 stars.[2]

Legacy

[edit]

At the Belgrade Dok n ritam festival in September 2023, a film named after album was announced. The topic is the partnership Rundek-Sacher.[14] Arsen Oremović is director of film.[15]
