The University of Bondoukou (U-bkou) is an Ivorian public university located in the northeastern part of Côte d'Ivoire in the city of Bondoukou, specifically in the Gontougo Region.

The university offers programs in fields such as architecture, urban planning, governance, sustainable development, sciences, arts, cultural industries, communication, languages and foreign languages, humanities, and social sciences.

History[edit]

The foundation stone of the University of Bondoukou (U-bkou) was laid on 19 December 2019 by the late Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly.[1][2] The university campus covers an area of 305 hectares,[3][4] aiming to accommodate up to 20,000 students in the future,[5][6] as planned under the University Decentralization Program (PDU).[7] The construction is overseen by the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD).[8]

The University of Bondoukou is a public institution of higher education and research. It is an administrative public institution with a scientific and technological character, founded on values of excellence, innovation, and openness to the world. It aims to play a key role in training scientific and technical professionals specialized in local, rural, and community development.

The university offers modern and highly employable educational programs to reduce unemployment in Côte d'Ivoire.[9]

The University of Bondoukou officially opened its doors on October 2, 2023.[10]

Organization[edit]

The University of Bondoukou comprises the National School of Architecture and Urbanism (ENSAU) and five training units:[11]

  • Faculty of Governance and Sustainable Development
  • Faculty of Arts, Cultural Industries, and Communication Sciences
  • Faculty of Language Sciences, Letters, and Foreign Languages
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Health Sciences

Additionally, it includes the Institute of Languages and the Institute of Art, History, and Archaeology.

Mission[edit]

The mission of the University of Bondoukou is to provide initial and continuing education in scientific fields, local development, rural development, and community development.

Objectives[edit]

The University of Bondoukou aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Offer high-level academic programs aligned with the needs of the labor market and society.
  • Encourage scientific and technological research and the valorization of research outcomes.
  • Contribute to local and human development by providing concrete support to regional development activities.
  • Promote the dissemination of knowledge and culture by fostering an academic environment conducive to the intellectual and personal development of students.
  • Provide high-quality scientific, technical, and technological education, enabling learners to be at the forefront of advancements in their fields of study.
  • Promote international cooperation in education and research to enrich academic perspectives and promote global openness.

Partnership[edit]

In 2024, the University of Bondoukou and the Network of Universities of Science and Technology in Africa signed a partnership agreement to enhance their teaching offerings and develop research projects.[12]
