User:(RT)/Major composer lists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Details of reference lists for use with the template Timeline Classical Composers Famous.

  • It is suggested that the criteria used should be major composers and that the name of the timeline is changed to reflect this.
  • It is envisaged limiting the timeline to between 100 and 150 names as: (a) it is intended to be an brief overview; and (b) so that the graphic generated does not become too large.

Source selection

[edit]
  • Expert and published sources used.
  • The lists used are all selections of major composers - although the actual criteria may vary (eg 'top', notable, famous, influential, etc); lists used are not simply collections of composers' names.
  • Lists address all eras to be shown on the timeline - ie from the medieval period up to recent times.
  • Optimum list length should be about 100 or so names (as this is about the number of composers envisaged to be included in the timeline).
  • More suitable sources sought, noting that List of major opera composers used 10 relevant lists.
