The UK Singles Chart is one of many music charts compiled by the Official Charts Company that calculates the best-selling singles of the week in the United Kingdom.[1] Since 2004 the chart has been based on the sales of both physical singles and digital downloads, with airplay figures excluded from the official chart.[2][3]
This list shows singles that peaked in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart during 2011, as well as songs which peaked in 2010 and 2012 but were in the top 40 in 2011. The entry date is when the song appeared in the top 40 for the first time (week ending, as published by the Official Charts Company, which is six days after the chart is announced).
Three-hundred and forty-four singles were in the top forty this year. Forty-four singles from 2010 remained in the top 40 for several weeks at the beginning of the year, or re-entered during the year. "Do It like a Dude" by Jessie J, "Girls" by N-Dubz, "Invincible" by Tinie Tempah featuring Kelly Rowland, "Lose My Mind by The Wanted, "More" by Usher, "What's My Name?" by Rihanna featuring Drake and "Who's That Chick?" by David Guetta featuring Rihanna all first charted in 2010 but reached their peak in 2011.
Additionally, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey and "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl both returned to the chart at the end of 2010 and rose to a higher position during 2011, having peaked in previous years.
The list of singles that charted in 2011 but did not peak until 2012 include "One Day Like This" by Elbow, "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida, "Love On Top" by Beyoncé, "Mama Do the Hump" by Rizzle Kicks, "Paradise" by Coldplay, "Princess of China" by Coldplay featuring Rihanna, "The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry, "Titanium" by David Guetta featuring Sia, "Turn Me On" by David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj and "You Da One" by Rihanna. "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri took until 2013 to rise to its highest chart position, having first entered the top forty in 2011.
Ninety-seven artists had multiple entries in the top forty in 2011, with the Glee Cast and Rihanna having the joint most entries (13). Artists featured on the charity singles "Heroes" by The X Factor Finalists 2010, "Teardrop" by The Collective and "Wishing on a Star" by The X Factor Finalists 2011 get an individual credit for these singles. Singles that reached the top ten this year are featured here but also included in their own article.
