7 Arty Bde was raised on 01 Jul 1963. The Bde participated in all ops since its inception and played a pivotal role in 1965 & 1971 wars. The fmn was redesignated as 28 Arty Bde on 01 Mar 1978 and reverted to its present designation on 01 Jul 1982. Before 1947, as an Indep Bde, the fmn had played a determinant role in Gallipoli campaign and def ops of Suez canal as a part of ANZAC in 1915. The Bde was orbatted as 7 Indian Division Royal Arty Bde in Burma Campaign in 1942

In 1965 Indo-Pak War, Gunners of the fmn and those deployed in the Sect as part of 4 Arty Bde performed commendably in the epic battles of Barki and Asal Uttar. Their contribution and sacrifice has been etched in the annals of military history and forms part of military folklore. 165 Fd Regt took part in the Battle of Barki and played a critical role in providing devastating and accurate firepower. In the Battle of Asal Uttar, 40 Med Regt and 91 Comp Mtn Regt were responsible for thwarting the offn design of Pakistani 1 Armd Division and were awarded Honour Title Asal Uttar.

66 Fd Regt was deployed in ‘BARKI’ in Lahore sector from 05 to 16 Sep 1965. The Regt was in support of 65 Inf Bde Ex 7 Inf Div for the capture of an important enemy locality. Close and continuous firepower by the gunners of 66 Fd Regt facilitated early capture of the objective.


In 1971 Indo-Pak War, the formation was again called upon to provide firepower to pulverize the en and his will to fight. Flamed with passion, the fmn and its units rose to the occasion and gave a glorious record of its performance in the battles of Khalra, Sehjra, Hussainiwala and Mamdot. In Khalra, the offn designs of Pakistan were thwarted by the accurate and effective Arty fire by 172 Fd Regt, 35 Fd Regt and 1881 Lt Regt. During the course of the battle Capt AK Karkare, OP Offr of 35 Fd Regt attained martyrdom and was awarded VrC (Posth). In the Battle of Sehjra, 174 Fd Regt, 171 Fd Regt and 60 Hy Regt provided devastating firepower to 48 Inf Bde for capture of Sehjra Bulge. 174 Fd Regt was awarded Honour Title Sehjra. In the battles of Hussainiwala and Mamdot, 223 Med Regt & 5 Fd Regt distinguished themselves. Capt DK Sharma of 223 Med Regt was awarded VrC and Capt IP Sharma of 5 Fd Regt was awarded SM for their indomitable spirit and valour on the battle field. The contribution of the Gunners in the epic battles fought in this Sector have been engraved in the chronicles of military history and will continue to inspire future generations.
