A.Rukmaya Poojary a former MLA(member of assembly) from Vittala Constituency in Mangalore District back in 1983 and 1987 he had been elected for Zilla Parishath as the only member from the BJP.

He proved himself with the strong support of the Vittala assembly constituency by winning the 1989 and 1994 elections with a huge winning margin. It is essential to know Shri A Rukmaya Poojary was one among the only four MLAs of BJP at the Karnataka legislative assembly. He was again a popular BJP MLA when the BJP had won 7 seats in 1994.
