User:Absolutely Trustworthy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi everyone,
if you google "Absolutely Trustworthy"[1] you will find some religious web sites at the first places.
Well I don't want to look like some religious fanatic that believes without criticising it, the Torah, the Bible, the Koran or any other so called "sacred text".
I believe more in what Enlightment brought to us, so what should be considered "Absolutely Trustworthy"?
Nothing, not even me.
That's my answer.
According to Karl Popper (1902-1994) (famous for his vigorous defence of liberal democracy and the principles of social criticism which he took to make the flourishing of the "open society" possible) the criterion demarcating science from non-science should lie in potential falsifiability.
So the search of truth should be achieved throw discussion and democratic dialectic where noone can consider himself "absolutely trustworthy" or "right".

The XX century has seen opposed to the period of World War I and World War II a relatively global peace achieved through the means of a so called "balance of terror" during the Cold War (well not mentioning the proxy wars obviously...).
Nowadays we are in the middle of a War on Terrorism.
Please read the Criticism of the War on Terrorism before coming up with the conclusion that the only way we can achieve global peace is through democracy, freedom of speech... and glasnost....
This glasnost didn't work in 1986 when this "policy" met resistance during the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, when sovietic authorities hid the true extent of the nuclear accident for several days.
A nuclear fallout has hit Europe and the real extent of the disaster is *STILL* unknown.
I was living in Europe at the time and I know for sure that I have seen many people dying for cancer and lymphomas. I have been diagnosed a very strange lung disease that makes me sick and that all the physicians that I have visited don't know how to cure.
So glasnost and media coverage about nuclear health hazards didn't work very well with the 2000 Russian submarine Kursk explosion.
But let's go back to global politics.
If you have any other conclusion in how to achieve global peace I would be interested in discussing it with you in my discussion page.
Thanks for your attention.
