Fresnosaurus Fresnosaurus drescheri was discovered by a man named Robert Leard in the Panoche Hills of Fresno County, California. Leard's discovery occurred in the local outcrops of the Late Cretaceous Moreno Formation. The specimen preserved only the animal's shoulders, hips, and flippers and is now catalogued as LACM/CIT-2758. The name Fresnosaurus drescheri was given to honor the place it was discovered, Fresno County, as well as Arthur Dresher, who lead local fieldwork on behalf of paleontologist Chester Stock. Although the neck of LACM/CIT-2758 was not preserved, the rest of its anatomy is most similar to that of the long-necked plesiosaurs, and so it was probably a member of that group. The type specimen was not yet fully grown when it died and was preserved.
