Robert E. Howard Studies is the study of Texan writer Robert E. Howard and his works. This research focusses on different facets of the man and his writing, including aspects of his personal life, the subtexts in his stories and FOO.

Rusty Burke[edit]

Rusty Burke has published several essays on Howard and his character Conan.[1] He was Series Editor on Wandering Star's limited editions of Howard's works, on Bison Books' collections and on Del Rey's ongoing series of Howard books.[1] He has written short biography of Howard and is working on a book-length version.[1] Burke joined REHupa ten years after he first discovered Conan in Marvel Comics' Conan the Barbarian (comic).[1] He is on the board of directors for the Robert E. Howard Foundation.[1]

Mark Finn[edit]

Mark Finn wrote the Howard biography Blood and Thunder.[2]

Leo Grin was the editor of the Howardian acamedic journal The Cimmerian.[2]

Mark Hall (editor) is the editor of the magazine The Dark Man.[2]

Paul Herman[edit]

Paul Herman (writer) has edited several Howard collections.[1] He is on the board of directors for the Robert E. Howard Foundation.[1]

Don Herron[edit]

Don Herron first major contribution to the field was the essay "Conan vs. Conantics".[1] He has edited two collections of essays related to Howard: The Dark Barbarian (1984) and The Barbaric Triumph (2004).[1]

Patrice Louinet[edit]

Patrice Louinet discovered the character of Conan in 1983.[1] Howard was the subject of both Louinet's Ph.D. dissertation (1990) and his Post Doctoral Thesis (1992).[1] Louinet has written several further essays related to Howard.[1] He was the General Editor for Wandering Star's limited edition Conan collections and Del Rey's softcover releases of the same books.[1] Louinet is on the board of directors for the Robert E. Howard Foundation.[1]

Joe Marek is the editor of The New Howard Reader.[2]

Dennis McHaney[edit]

Dennis McHaney is the publisher of The Howard Review and other Howardian books.[2]

Craig Miller[edit]

Craig Miller (publisher) is the publisher of the magazine Spectrum.[2]

Dale E. Rippke[edit]

Dale E. Rippke wrote the 2004 book The Hyborian Heresies analysing aspects of the Conan stories.[1] He is also the webmaster for the sword and sorcery website Heroes of Dark Fantasy.[1]

Rob Roehm[edit]

Rob Roehm is the editor of The Collected Letters of Robert E. Howard.[2]

Paul M. Sammon[edit]

Paul M. Sammon worked on the first two Conan films, Conan the Barbarian (1982 film) and Conan the Destroyer, as a marketing representative for Universal Pictures.[1] This gave him first hand background information on the films and allowed him to collect a library of further information. He has since written extensively on the subject.[1]

Damon Sasser is the editor of the magazine REH: Two-Gun Raconteur.[2]

James Van Hise[edit]

James Van Hise edited and contributed to the book The Fantastic Worlds of Robert E. Howard (1997), which collected and reprinted essays and articles written as part of REHupa.[1] Van Hise has also published the Howardian fanzine Sword & Fantasy (2005).[2]

Edward A. Waterman[edit]

Edward A. Waterman has published articles about Howard's literature in The Barbaric Triumh and The Dark Man.[2] He is also the designer and webmaster of the Conan website.[2]

Robert Weinberg[edit]

Robert Weinberg (author) is a noted scholar of pulp magazines and Weird Tales.[2] He wrote the early Howardian study The Annotated Guide to Robert E. Howard's Sword and Sorcery.[2]
