Biography

Pre-Abu Almukhshiy's Death

[edit]

Some historians cited verses her father wrote in praise of Sulaiman bin Abdul-Rahman Al Dakhil, at the time of her father being alive. It was narrated that someone, that goes by the name of Hisham, thought that Abu Almakhshi was using Periphrasis to talk about him in his poems. Consequently, Hisham was so angry with Abu Almakhshi that he blinded him. This made Prince Abdul-Rahman Al Dakhil pay him a doubled sum of money to compensate for the loss of his eyes. He even gave him two thousand Dinars. Later, Hisham felt sorry for him and subsequently gave him a lot of money. Abu Almakhshi finally died during the days of Ibn Hisham The Third.

Post-Abu Almukhshiy's Death

Under Ibn Hisham's Rule

Altamimiya wrote verses to the person in power (Ibn Hisham The Third) after her father’s death, introducing herself and praising him as well. He appreciated her verses, and proceeded to put in place a salary for her. Ibn Hisham also commanded his men to treat her well and therefore she lived a flourishing life.

Under Abdul-Rahman's Rule

However, after Ibn Hisham's son (Abdul-Rahman) took over power, everything took a turn. Her properties were ceased, as well as her salary was cut. She approached his palace, begging the workers there to let her in. Abul-Rahman was over-filled with joy, she described her sad situation after her dad had died, raising one of her father’s works to him and telling him all about her situation. He felt sorry for her and took the paper, expressing his sympathy by kissing and putting it over his head. Then, he concluded that: Ibn Labid misused his authority and disobeyed the authority. He added that he would keep the promise his father made to Altamimiya and follow his path. Moreover, he said that he'd remove Ibn Labid from his office due to his misuse of authority. He then singed for her papers, using the same type of signatures her father did, that allowed her to regain her properties. He finally granted her a prize and then he allowed her to leave. She kissed his hand, left, and then wrote a poem showing how thankful she is.
