Appearance
This page contains a 5 calendar snippets. Each is a sequence of 6 consecutive days. It is intended as an illustration for:
- the absence of year 0 in the historian’s way of counting the year; and the inclusion in the astronomer’s way
- the use of the Gregorian calendar proleptically in ISO 8601:2004
- the use of Lady Day as the first day of the year by the Venerable Bede
- the difference between the Before Christ convention as currently used today and Bede’s ante Incarnationis Dominicæ tempus
- the discrepancy between the actually used Roman calendar and the Julian calendar (as intended) up until the day before the Kalends of March in the year when Cossus Cornelius Lentullus and Lucius Calpurnius Piso were consuls
- the fact that 1 B.C. is a leap year in both the Julian and the Gregorian calendar, but wasn’t actually a bissextile year in the then observed Roman calendar
