The Saint Mark's Square ([Trg svetog Marka, Markov trg] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help)) is a historic town square located on Gornji Grad in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia. It is famous for being the main town square since Zagreb's early days. It has been an important site of many political movements, including Croatian and Slovenian peasant revolt of 16th century, the massacre of July victims and the dreaded ratification of Croatia's acceptance into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The square hosts the impressive St. Mark's Church and Banski dvori, the residence of the Croatian government.
In 2006 the square underwent a 14.5 million kuna worth renovation. The facelift included a new granite pavement and lowering the square to the historical street level.[1][2]
