Adry 5[edit]

David Daniel Munro Coutant, also known as Adry 5, was born in the small California town of Sierra Madre, in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. His father, Stanley Coutant, was a typesetter at Pasadena City College, his mother was a homemaker.
David was the second of two children born to Stan & Karan Coutant. His brother Ivan X has become an accomplished guitarist in the Southern California area.

Musical Beginnings[edit]

David took a beginning guitar class at the age of 11 at Charles W. Eliot Jr. High School in Altadena, California, in order to convince his parents to buy him an electric bass guitar. The teacher of that class was a Linda Jones.
At 17, David formed his first band, calling it VD, after "Vas Deferens," the screen name he used on his father's electronic bulletin board system, the Greycastle. VD bandmates were Jeromy "Sperm" Furguiele on drums & Anthony Russo on bass. David played guitar & sang, & was the primary songwriter.
David's early musical career involved various cover bands, including a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, to play with some friends as The 3 Idiots, opening for the Sierra Madre group Winter Kills.

Early Growth[edit]

In the early 1990s David joined the Goth/Deathrock group 13 Knots in which his brother Ivan had been the guitar player & key songwriter since the group's inception.

David borrowed the name Adry from the character Adry Long from the Crispin Hellion Glover book Oak Mot. The numeral 5 comes from the Roman numeral V, which was originally an initial for the Icelandic pseudo surname "Vaendiskona."

13 Knots recorded a demo tape, titled "AtmosFear." The demo featured guest keyboardist Paris of EXP, a Rozz Williams "family" group.

In 1998 David joined a group headed by Gitane Demone, & toured parts of Europe & the United States in support of her just-released Am I Wrong? album. Other members of the group included, at various times, Kenton Holmes, Justin Bennett, Kevin Steger, & Ivan X. David remained part of her live group, including one U.S. tour as her sole accompaniment, playing acoustic guitar to her vocal. In 2000 Gitane recorded her Stars of Trash album in Berlin, with the German group Dreadful Shadows as her backing band on several tracks. David contributed acoustic guitar tracks to this album under the name Adry 5.

Later Career[edit]

In September 2004, David joined with Jason Shelnutt (Jaysson Black) on bass, & Dave Rubenhold, then vocalist for SoCal metal group Affliction, now of Soulbleed, on hand drum & backup vocals, to form Chocolate Zulu (http://www.chocolatezulu.com/), an acoustic pop trio that played around the L.A. area to very little notice. The group survived until a performance at Pasadena's Old Towne Pub, when, halfway through the set, drummer Rubenhold walked off stage claiming he was "too drunk" to continue. The relationship had grown increasingly tense after Rubenhold had moved into the house where David was living in Monrovia, California, and this was the last meeting of the group. David & Jason tried in vain to find a replacement drummer over the next year.
On March 24, 2006, David married his long-time friend Emily Madewell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1420934/) (13 Knots reunited to play at the reception). In January 2007 David moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he eventually joined the group Tx/Rx as their bass player. His brief stint with this group included a performance at Austin, Texas' SxSW festival, & a CD release party for the group's second album. Although David helped write some of the material for the third album, he played on none of the group's recordings. He left Tx/Rx when he moved back to Southern California in April, 2008.

In May, 2008, David reformed his trio with Jaysson Black, adding David Martinez, whom he met while they were both working at the Therapak Corporation, as drummer. Calling himself Danny Munro, & the band Orange Cones, they recorded their 9-song demo "Masterpieces of Entertainment" in July 2008 & began playing live shows in January 2009. In March of the same year Jaysson left the band for personal reasons & was replaced by Leo on bass. The new lineup's debut took place at The Palms bar in west Hollywood. That was their only show.

Orange Cones reunited in 2011 to play the Rancho Santa Gertrudes Elementary School's 150th anniversary carnival.

Personal Life[edit]

David and his wife Emily had their first child, daughter Delilah, on May 31, 2009.
David is offering guitar lessons in the Whittier area.
