Joseph Denovan Adam (18 December 1880 - 12 December 1931) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life

His father was Joseph Denovan Adam [Snr], also a painter.

His mother was Annie Lochhead (3 April 1855 - 1942). They married on 14 September 1876.

Joseph Denovan Adam was born on 18 December 1880 in 45 Northumberland Street in St. Andrews parish, Edinburgh. His brother John Lochhead Adam was born there in 1884.

He worked with his father at Craigmill Farm near Stirling.[2]

During the First World War he was stationed with British troops in Macedonia.[3]

Joseph Denovan Adam married Letitia Dauncey in January 1924.

Art

He studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1897 to 1899.[4]

Death

He died in at the Royal Infirmary, Dennistoun, Glasgow in 1931. The death certificate states he died of a cerebral haemorrhage. His usual address was 181 Renfrew Street in Glasgow. His brother John Lochhead Adam was the informant on the death certificate.

Works

Two of his works from the Macedonia front line from 1917 are The Front Near The River Vardar and Hours On Post.[5]
