Mary Elizabeth Berry (25 December 1867 - 18 October 1936) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life

Her father was Thomas Mark Berry (born c.1827), a master saddler from Edinburgh.

Her mother was Jane Frances Lizars (born c. 1833) from Leith. Thomas and Jane married in Leith in 1865.

Mary Elizabeth Berry was born on 25 December 1867 in Leith.

Art

In 1888 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: On The Forth.[2]

By 1900 she had moved from Leith to Picardy Place in Edinburgh. She exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy that year, her works: A Crofter's Biggin and On The Fleet.[3]

In 1901 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Old Belgian Woman.[4]

She exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1902 her works: Eventide and A Road In Spring.[5]

In 1919 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: The Surrender Of The German Fleet.[6]

In 1925 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Winter At Mount Cook, New Zealand.[7]

In 1929 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Rice Fields, Hawaii.[8]

In 1932 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: The Wetterhorn.[9]

In 1933 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Quimperle.[10]

Death

She died on 18 October 1936 at 62 Stirling Road, Trinity in Edinburgh. Her usual address was 16 Picardy Place, Edinburgh.[11]

The value of her estate was £3732, 7 shillings and 5 pence.

Works

Her Winter Mountains oil on canvas has been to auction.[12] Her Study Of A Collie has also been to auction.[13]

Two watercolours Cramond Ferry and Evening, Garrington have also been to auction.[14]
