Jean Arthur (20 September 1897 - 7 May 1979) was a Scottish painter.

Life

Her father was Andrew Arthur (31 December 1862 - 24 August 1936), a soft goods merchant.[1] He owned a large warehouse in Glasgow.[2] He took over Lainshaw House in Stewarton in 1899.[3] His father was James Arthur (6 March 1819 - 17 June 1885).[4]

Her mother was Elizabeth Frankland Connal (13 September 1864 - 19 October 1857). She married Andrew Arthur on 24 April 1894 in Glasgow.

Jane Arthur, known as Jean, was born in Montgomerie House in Kilwinning on 20 September 1897. She married Captain Arthur Stuart Bellingham (30 July 1893 - 6 September 1969) on 7 August 1923.[5] They moved to Ireland.[6]

Art

In 1914 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Orchids.[7]

Death

She died on 7 May 1979 in Dublin, Ireland.
