Mary Maitland Govan (24 March 1857 - 20 January 1944) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life[edit]

Her father was Charles Maitland Govan (20 November 1827 - 19 May 1915) in Shimla, India.[3][4] His father George Govan, from Fife, was a doctor; Charles enrolled in the army and became a Major-General. This led to Charles posts overseas. Charles died in Stoneyhill, Musselburgh, but is buried in Cupar alongside his parents.[5]

Her mother was Jane Rachel Jarvis (c. 1839 - 1897).[6] Charles and Jane married in Heriot and Warriston parish, Edinburgh on 24 March 1856.

Mary Maitland Govan was born 24 March 1857 in Gibraltar.[7]
