George Gray (18 December 1833 - 31 December 1909) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life[edit]

His father was Edward Gray (born c. 1813), a painter and glazier from Newlands, near Kirknewton in West Lothian.

His mother was Isabella Leadbetter (born c. 1811) from Humbie in East Lothian. Edward and Isabella married on 16 September 1831 in St. Cuthbert's parish, Edinburgh.

George Gray was born on 16 December 1833 in Galashiels.[3]

He married Ann Young Scott (22 February 1835 - 26 December 1909) from Earlston. They married on 7 January 1862 in Kirkcaldy, Fife.[6]

Their daughter Jessie Dixon Gray (c. 1866 - 1930) was an artist.

Death[edit]

He died on 31 December 1909 in Musselburgh. He is buried in St. Michael's churchyard in Inveresk.[7]
