Andrew Gilchrist Hannah (6 April 1873 - 21 September 1958) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life[edit]

His father was James Hannah (15 October 1846 - 25 April 1924) from Knockbrake, Maybole in Ayrshire. He was a railway engine driver.[3]

His mother was Margaret Gilchrist (25 October 1847 - 2 November 1922), a domestic servant from Dundonald in Ayrshire. Margaret and James married on 11 April 1873 at Inkerman Place, Kilmarnock. Both had their usual addresses noted in Greenock.

Andrew Gilchrist Hannah was born on 6 April 1873 at Inkerman Place, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Andrew is noted as illegitimate on his birth certificate, with his parents marrying 5 days later. He was the eldest of their 6 children.

Andrew married Elizabeth Wilson, known as Lizzie, in the Tontine Hotel in Greenock on 30 April 1901.[4]

Their son was the artist Andrew Hannah (13 September 1907 - 13 September 1978).[5]

He died on 21 September 1958 at Camphill House, Queens Park, Glasgow.[6]
