Barcley Henry (6 May 1868 - 21 January 1946) was a Scottish painter.[1][2] His name is sometimes given as Barclay, however Barcley was used by the artist himself when signing his work.

Life

His father was Barcley (sometimes written as Barclay) Henry [Snr] (27 November 1813 - 6 December 1876) from Greenock. He was the Licentiate of the University Of Glasgow and General Practitioner.

His mother was Elizabeth Ellis Baxter (c. 1833 - 3 July 1911) from Greenock. Barcley [Snr] and Elizabeth married on 15 July 1856 in Greenock.

Barcley Henry was born on 6 May 1868 in Luss in Argyll. He was the couple's second son, and the second named Barcley. Their first son did not survive infancy and died earlier that year.

He married Olive Daisy Stackhouse Paynter (10 October 1893 - 1 April 1981) on 3 August 1918 in Arrochar. Olive was the youngest daughter of Henry A. Paynter of Alnwick.

He died on 21 January 1946 at Fascadail House in Arrochar.
