James Irvine (29 September 1822 - 17 March 1889) was a Scottish painter and potter.

His father was John Irvine (6 April 1790 - 21 September 1855), a joiner from Menmuir in Angus.
His mother was Janet Mitchell (c. 1795 - 24 March 1860) from Angus.
James Irvine was born on 29 September 1822 in Menmuir in Angus.

He died in 17 March 1889 at his home in Brunswick Cottage, Hillside, Montrose.[1] The value of his estate was given as £1378, 6 shillings and 4 pence.[2]
